The Definitive Ranking of the
UK’s Top Retailers
The 2024 UK500 Ranking sees six retailers, Amazon, Apple, IKEA, Next, Screwfix and Tesco ranked as Elite. Between them the account for over $38.5 billion in revenues. This year’s Elite is composed primarily of direct-to-consumer brands. Brands make up half of the Top500, although this strong presence is rewarded with only 22% of the traffic to Top500 brands, as shown in the category analysis of the Top500. Retailers, meanwhile make up 30% of the Top500 and see 23% of traffic.
Marketplaces account for 20% of the Top500 and see 55% of traffic. Fashion is the largest single category in the UK Top500 2024, accounting for 38% of listed websites by number and seeing 17% of traffic. In contrast, multi-sector websites account for 8% of the Top500 by number but see 48% of traffic.

The 2024 RetailX Eu1000 identifies the leading retailers, brands, and marketplaces in a dynamic European ecommerce landscape. Covering 30 countries within the European Economic Area, plus the UK and Switzerland.
Elite retailers include Apple, Argos, H&M, IKEA, Screwfix, and Zara, excelling in innovation and customer experience. Marketplaces dominate web traffic (42%) despite representing 26% of the list, while fashion leads in numbers (21%) but sees lower traffic. The report offers insights into ecommerce trends, consumer preferences, and sustainability in a competitive market.

The 2024 Global1000 Ranking celebrates five Elite retailers—Amazon, Apple, H&M, Samsung, and Walmart—recognised for their global influence and operational excellence. Together, these leaders account for over $100 billion in revenue, excelling across customer experience, product innovation, and operational efficiency.
Marketplaces play a pivotal role in the EU1000, constituting 30% of the ranked entities but commanding 53% of consumer web traffic. Retailers and brands, while collectively representing the majority (70%), attract less than half of the total traffic. This underscores the dominance of marketplaces as preferred shopping destinations.
Fashion emerges as the most prominent category, comprising 40% of the listed entities but drawing just 18% of web traffic. In contrast, multi-sector platforms, which account for only 12% of the EU1000 by number, secure nearly half of all consumer visits, highlighting their importance in the ecommerce ecosystem.
